| Speeding Up Metabolism |
How much weight you gain or lose can be attributed pretty much to your metabolism. Before we get on to how you can lose weight faster by speeding up your metabolism, let's take a look at what is metabolism exactly.
Metabolism is the process where your body breaks down the food that you eat and convert it into energy your body can use. This metabolic process itself of course uses energy as well, as with your other bodily functions to keep you alive.
Now, with that understanding in mind, I'm sure you would agree that trying to lose weight by starving your body of the 'fuel' ie. calories will slow down your metabolism. What happens is that it will conserve the limited energy supply by slowing down the metabolism so that there is enough energy to maintain your normal bodily functions. When the starvation goes on long enough, your body eventually stores the calories as fats to use if it doesn't get any food. So how can you keep that metabolism of yours running high?
Speeding up metabolism can be quite easy if you follow a few simple pointers. There are no hard and fast rules and some method will work better than others for you, so feel free to try them out and experiment a little to see what works best for you.
DON'T Skip Breakfast
Having a hearty breakfast in the morning gets your sugar levels up and kick starts your metabolism, so that it is likely to keep working at a more consistent pace throughout the day. When you skip breakfast, you will feel energy dips when you go through your day, resulting in you feeling tired and lethargic.
Benefits of Eating Protein and Fiber
The protein and fiber contained in your food are harder to break down by your body into usable energy. What this means is that your body uses up more energy to process the food, raising your metabolism and burning up more calories.
Move It! Move It!
Instead of using the intercom, try walking over to your colleagues more to talk to them. Increase your activities throughout the day, use the stairs instead of the lift, using the restroom two floors down. You get the idea, increasing your physical movements will help keep your metabolism running.
These are just a few of the things you can do to help raise your metabolism. There are many other actions you can take to help keep that metabolism revving high and burn more fats. But raising your metabolism is only one aspect of weight loss, a well balanced diet and carefully planned exercise routine can help you go a long way.
