Overview:
*Most plastic comb binding machines make binding documents that are legal sized (14” long) very difficult. The comb openers aren’t long enough and the punching units require you to punch each page twice. Thus, organizations that need to bind very many legal sized documents should really consider a legal sized machine.
*The Durabind 242 is an economical heavy duty legal sized manual plastic comb binding machine.
*Includes the same great features as the 210PB or the GBC C250 but offers 24 hole punching for fourteen inch documents.
Features / Strengths:
*High quality legal length manual comb binding machine for a good price point. Has both a 14” comb opener and the ability to punch 24 holes for legal sized binding.
*Has both a depth of punch margin control for binding small and large documents and fully disengageable dies for binding documents with shorter binding edges. These make the 242 very versatile.
*Separate handle for the comb opener means that the machine can be placed against a wall. It also means that the comb opening components don’t move during punching which helps to prolong the life of the machine.
Strong manual punch is capable of punching between 15-20 sheets at a time or 2 plastic covers.
Limitations / Weaknesses:
*Manual punch is high quality but still limits productivity. Larger organizations should consider a punch with an electric motor for higher productivity and to reduce the risk of repetitive motion injuries.
*Plastic comb binding supplies in legal sizes can sometimes be hard to find. They are generally available in black but are more difficult to obtain in other colors. If you want to bind legal sized documents with combs you should check on the availability of the supplies that you need before purchasing a machine. Sometimes, spiral coil is a better option for legal binding.
