Pc200 Spiral Coil Binding Machine Product Review

Overview:

*The PC200 is a low cost feature rich plastic spiral coil binding machine that is ideal for small offices, home offices and for use in scrapbooking.

*This high quality four to one pitch spiral coil binding machine is an excellent choice for organizations that need to bind custom sized documents, reports, presentations or books.

*It includes a number of great features that help to set it apart from other similarly priced machines and even comes with a free pair of coil crimping pliers in the box.

Strengths / Features:

*The PC-200 plastic coil binding machine includes forty-six fully disengageable punching pins. It is one of the only coil binding systems that offers this feature and is most certainly the only machine in this price range to offer disengageable punching pins. Using the punching pins on the front of the machine it is possible to stop any one of holes on this machine from punching. This allows you to punch any custom size of document up to eleven inches. Plus, the open throat design of this unit allows users to punch documents up to twenty-one inches in length using a multi step punching process.

*This machine includes a pair of spiral coil crimpers to help you finish binding your documents. Spiral coil crimpers are used to cut off the excess coil and bend over the end so that the spiral cannot spin back off the book. Crimping coil without a pair of these special pliers can be extremely difficult and is not recommended. Many low priced pieces of equipment don't include a pair of these pliers which sell for about thirty dollars on their own.

*The PC200E binding machine is made primarily of metal. The metal components used in this machine help to make it strong and durable. It certainly isn't an industrial strength binding machine. However, it should be more than adequate for a small office.

*In addition to these features, the PC200 also includes an adjustable depth of punching margin control and a built in coil size selector. These are also great features to make binding documents easier with your coil binding machine.

Weaknesses / Limitations:

*For offices that bind a handful of documents per week, the punching capacity on the PC200 should be more than adequate. It can punch between twelve and fifteen sheets of paper per lift which isn't too bad. However, for users that need to do any type of volume binding, the punching process used by this machine may become extremely tedious.

*Additionally, the PC-200 does not include a spiral coil inserter. This means that you will need to spin the coils onto the document by hand. This is a fairly easy task for binding two or three books at a time. However, inserting fifty or a hundred coils would take a really long time.

*Although it is possible to bind virtually any length of document using the PC-200, this is still an eleven inch binding punch. Binding longer documents requires punching one side of the paper and then flipping the sheets over to punch the remaining holes. This process is time consuming and it can be fairly difficult to set up the machine to get the holes to line up.

Recommendation:

*The PC200 is an excellent low cost spiral coil binding machine for small office and home office users.

*It offers the ability to bind virtually any length of document which makes it ideal for crafting, scrapbooking, professional proposals and more.
Plus, it is made almost entirely out of metal to help ensure durability.

*However, the PC-200 has a limited punching capacity and does not include a spiral coil inserter. For these reasons, it is not a good choice for binding more than a few dozen documents per week.
