Offline we make lots of dating mistakes. But online, there is one major mistake we must never make:
Never, Ever be too trusting!
You are dealing with millions of faceless strangers. After a couple of emails, suddenly within our minds we convert these strangers into friends.
One thing that amazes me is, there are certain favors we won’t do for our offline friends, but we will do the favors for online strangers!
We wire money, make promises, co-sign, buy and ship expensive gifts of clothing and jewelry that we can’t afford!
I know women that have sent their rent money (which is a necessity) to a man that wants a down payment for a luxury vehicle (not a necessity!)
I know men that have fallen behind in their child support, because they wired money to a total stranger.
Sometimes they don’t even know the person’s full name and address!
My point? If you are that “gullible” at least obtain a promissory note.
I think the saddest part to this whole problem, is that it gives internet dating a bad reputation. Instead of blaming ourselves or the faceless users, we blame the internet dating sites.
Some online dating mistakes can be avoided. Please take the time to get to know someone. If they lose patience and or interest? Good riddance!
If, before you get the chance to know someone, and they are “hinting” for any type of monetary help or gifts, please be smart enough to know this is a user.
Just like any other relationship, once you get to know each other, voluntarily doing favors for each other will eventually happen!
But until then? Don’t make the online mistake of being too trusting of strangers.
Put yourself in position to “choose”...not always waiting to be “chosen”!
