Does Retirement Mean Doing Nothing?

Every 9 to 5'er has yearned for "R" day for so long-- when there will be no more getting up with the chickens, driving in all kinds of weather and working for a company at a J-O-B with a B-O-S-S. It became a point for you to reach that was getting closer day by day.

Then finally--RETIREMENT!

Now that you’ve finally arrived here, what are you going to do with all that extra time?

Believe me, I bet I know the feelings your having right now. It's spent a few weeks catching up on your sleep, watching TV, reading books, visiting with friends and family and doing projects around the house that had been placed on hold for years. Now you're starting to get restless and bored with not enough to occupy your time all day.

Actually, you almost start to feel jealous of the workers as they start their day. They're leaving each morning for a destination that, when they arrive, will give them something to do for the day. At least they have a daily purpose and goals to reach.

Then there you are, standing at the window with a cup of coffee in your hand, watching them leave. You're partially glad you're not out there in the rat race anymore and yet you are feeling like you have nothing very worthwhile to do with your time.

Those feelings of unhappiness you're having is your mind telling you that you've reached the place in retirement where you need to explore within yourself and rediscover those dreams you had and the passion to make them become a reality. You put the dreams aside all those years ago because you had to make a living and raise a family but now is the time to begin to make them take shape.

No matter if it's an old or new hobby, volunteering to help others, passing on your knowledge of a specialized field as a mentor or starting your own business, retirement can be the starting point of a whole new and exciting chapter in your life if you let it.

An important thing you should look into before making your dream a reality is to take a look at your current lifestyle and financial situation. Do you need to begin working again either full or part-time to keep your current lifestyle unchanged or do you just want to find something to keep you occupied?

Looking to the Internet for clues where to start either option is a good beginning. In fact, setting up a website of your very own on the "net" could be the ultimate answer to to beginning that new phase in your life.

A website could be about a hobby where others with a similar interest could gather together to exchange information, views or tips about that specific topic. Some examples would be crafts, woodworking, gardening, cooking, wines, travel or pets. A different site could be an income producing site that tells the world at large about a particular product or service you believe in while at the same time helping to increase your income to keep your retirement funds secure.

Establishing yourself and your goals after retirement is not as hard as you might think. By learning about what is available to you, you can make your dream into a reality.

You just need to take the that first step to fulfillment. Envision yourself as a happily retired person with a whole new destination in life. Your dreams can become something to be proud of as they fill your days with ever increasing goals.
