How To Keep Your Personal Life Away From Your Business
In the business world, personal matters don't belong. In your personal life, business matters don't belong. However, when working from home, separating these two very important parts of your life can be quite challenging. If you are a mom, you probably have to fit your business in to your day as you multi-task doing laundry, cleaning, and business.

The first thing you need to do is create a work schedule. This schedule should not be deviated from ever. This is a schedule for you and you must abide by it. That means, if the phone rings when you should be working, you don't answer it. This is highly important so you can stay on task with your business and actually get things accomplished. Your friends and family will start to realize that you only do phone calls after your business hours. It is a good idea to let them know when your work hours are to help eliminate phone calls.

Working from home has its advantages. It definitely gives you the freedom to do what you want when you want. However, many people take this too far and never actually get much work done. The key is to schedule your fun times in to your week. If you want to go have coffee when you would normally be working, schedule it in. Just don't forget, that you then need to schedule in the work time you missed.

When are you the most productive during the day? A stay-at-home parent may only be able to work during nap times for the kids and in the evenings. However, a parent with school-age children may want to work in the morning and evening. Figure out when your most productive time of the day is and stick to it for a good routine of when to work. You will also want to be sure to schedule your breaks as well. If you don't, you might go on working through the time you were going to spend time with your family.

Your home office is a place that should be for business only. If you can, separate it from the rest of the house. It should be in a separate room without distractions. There shouldn't be a television or too many windows. These just create distraction. If you can't put your office in a separate room, you can put a divider so your family knows when you are working and to let you be.

The dream of working at home is a great one. Many people are so excited because they finally don't have to get out of bed and get dressed. They can work in their pajamas if they want, and no one cares. However, when you dress nicely, it is proven that you get more done efficiently. This may not be the case for everyone, but for the majority of people, this is true. So, get out of bed and put on your good clothes to work.

These are just a few guidelines to keeping your personal and business life separate from each other. When you do follow these, you will notice that more work gets accomplished in the long run.
