Plan costs can go up into the $20,000 - $50,000 for extremely elaborate homes. What benefit will an individual see by going this route and paying for custom drawn house plans? Well, it depends. A lot of people think that they have such custom needs that they will not be able to find a stock house plan that would satisfy them.
However, most people will typically only look at 10-20 different house plans before giving up their search. Or they will settle on a plan and want modifications when there was probably one that fit their needs much closer if they had just spent more time searching.
