Management Exams in India


Most prestigious management Institutes have entrance exams to as a part of the first screening process followed by a group discussion (GD) and an Interview.

Most Management Exams are conducted with the aim to find out the aptitude and attitude of the prospective candidates on a consistent scale. This allows them to judge their ability to undertake the management programs offered by the institutes.

Some of the main management entrance exams in India are:

Common Admission Test - CAT

Common Admission Test - CAT is conducted by and for admission into the Indian Institute of Management (IIM’s) which are most reputed Management Institutes that India has to offer. CAT is held annually for the admission to various Post-graduate diploma and Fellow Programs in management and is also the most widely accepted exam by several management institutes in India. From 2009 onwards the CAT exam has become computer based exam.

Management Aptitude Test –MAT

Management Aptitude Test - MAT is conducted by the All India Management Association - Centre for Management Education (AIMA-CME). MAT examination, is held four times in a year for admission to courses approved by the Ministry of HRD (Government of India) in Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) for various management institutes. All Management Institutes participating in MAT are either AICTE approved or affiliated to some University. MAT score is only used as one of the screening processes by management institutes but the admission criteria for every institute is different.

Joint Management Entrance Test- JMET

Joint Management Entrance Test- JMET is an annual exam conducted to shortlist candidates for admission to the management degree courses offered by the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology). At present the IITs that offer programs in Management include IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee and IIT Madras.

Xavier Admission Test-XAT

Xavier Admission Test-XAT is conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur. XAT is conducted in 31 cities and more than 60 institutes accept the XAT score. XAT is used as one of the short listing methods by management institutes but the final admission procedure remains unique to each management college.

ICFAI Business School Aptitude Test -IBSAT

The ICFAI business school conducts the IBSAT aptitude test every year to short list candidates who wish to take admission in its management programs. IBSAT test qualifies the candidates to apply for admission to any of the ICFAI business schools situated in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Goa, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Managalore, Mumbai, Noida and Pune.

Faculty of Management Studies-FMS

Faculty of Management Studies-FMS conducts its own exam for admission to various MBA programmes offered by Delhi University. The exam is the initial screening followed by Group discussion and Interview.

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade-IIFT

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade conducts its admission test every year for candidates who wish to get admission in its 2 year management programs. IIFT has campuses in New Delhi and Kolkata.

Symbiosis National Aptitude Test- SNAP Test

Symbiosis National Aptitude -SNAP Test is a common written test for the admission to all Post-Graduate Institutes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University).It is only the first step of the selection process to qualify for the admission to the Post-Graduate programmes of that Institute.
