We Need a New Debt Stimulus Package

The debt stimulus package passed by the current administration has been a disastrous waste for the country. Besides recording breaking deficits, we are also seeing a continued increase in foreclosed homes. The best method would have been to let them all fail. It would have hurt for about 5 to 6 years…really hurt, but the final result would have been a stronger dollar, smarter consumers, and accountable companies. When half of Wall Street is out of a job, the other half would think twice about relying on their stats as “too big to fail”. I think there also would have been a huge push towards increased productivity and reliance.

Websites like http://www.debtstimuluspackage.com have popped up to offer assistance to consumers outside of the cash for clunker or toxic debt systems that are currently available. This is increasingly important considering the number of people in debt for credit cards and medical bills.

I would like to first address the independence part of this, mainly being oil. Our refusal to find a renewable source of energy is forcing us to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on foreign wars. Without oil, the entire culture of the Middle East would be changed. We would also have a lot less to fight about in the world with an unlimited supply of energy. With abundant energy comes cheap food, health care, and improved quality of life. Imagine if the United States had spent 1 trillion dollars (less than our debt stimulus package) on just finding clean, reusable energy. It would have been done in under a couple years and the benefits would be infinite.

The second part of the equation is creating an economy that is truly fair and free of government intervention. Companies must be forced to deal with consequences of providing credit to people that cannot afford it. This is two-fold on consumers as well. Bankruptcy should not be an easy option.

Hopefully, more Americans will realize what is needed and real change can begin….
