The benefits of China sourcing

China sourcing is helping companies to reduce their costs and to become more competitive. With increased globalization, competition can come from any part of the world, and consumers don’t have to settle for local manufacturers. Suppliers have to innovate, and are increasingly turning to China manufacturers to supply their products.Leading the way are giant US retail chains like Wal-Mart, Starbucks and Home Depot who are cutting costs and boosting productivity by means of China sourcing. At the same time, they are also competing to get a share in China’s own growing consumer markets. Businesses from all over the world have been rushing to establish China sourcing offices, and there has been a boom in international trade. China’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) has provided improved market access to China manufacturers and suppliers, by strengthening the trading rights of foreign enterprises.

However, studies have revealed that a major part of the China sourcing business may be going to the subsidiaries of firms from outside China, and to the joint venture companies floated by global suppliers and manufacturers, which are more adept at dealing with overseas buyers.

Overseas buyers are demanding and getting better value and quality from Chinese suppliers, and are passing on the benefits to their consumers. Due to this, the dependence of retail chains on more expensive branded products is reducing.

Chinese suppliers and logistics service providers can also respond to the specialized needs of overseas customers for labor-intensive value-added services.

For example, some customers have special requirements for labeling and shrink wrapping, while others need an assortment of products in the same pallet. Most Chinese suppliers and manufacturers have the capacity to meet their needs at competitive rates.

Supply chain management in China is improving, and overhead costs are also lower. Chinese suppliers and manufacturers are adopting state-of-the-art technology to manage their businesses more efficiently.

The benefits of China sourcing outweigh the disadvantages by a wide margin and most overseas customers feel that they cannot afford to let this opportunity pass them by.
