Obama's Federal Grants Help American Citizens Pay off Personal Debt - Apply For Yours Today

There is a lot of talk going around about government grants being able to help individuals get out of debt. While the government isn't as straight forward with debt relief as that, there is money that may help ease the burden. Grant availability changes frequently based upon the government's changing priorities, so it pays to research grant web sites often.

A simple keyword search on the government grant web site or the Catalog for Domestic Assistance web site will reveal a list of funding possibilities. There are grants awarded for education and business expenses. There are grants given to states and cities for public assistance programs. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), for example, is a program designed to help individuals and families who are behind on their heating bills.

Most of the time, grants are given to non-profit organizations or government institutions to provide support, education, and relief to Americans who qualify. There are assistance programs for families drowning in medical bills, for instance. This aid can be obtained through family services, hospitals, and health departments, all of whom receive federal grant funding.

Another example is the assorted home foreclosure prevention assistance programs springing up around the country to deal with the growing housing crisis. The Department of Housing receives grants (as do individual states) to prevent people from losing their homes. The Department of Housing even offers back rent assistance to those who qualify.

Those whose debt is comprised primarily of credit cards and unsecured loans only have one option: visit a credit counseling organization. The only grants available for unsecured debt go to these non-profit institutions to provide education in budgeting and debt management.

It pays to "follow the money." Watch to see where the ever-shifting federal grants are awarded to find which agencies are prepared to help relieve your debt.
