Get Gov Links – SEO's Most Powerful (and Elusive) Backlinks

Search engines regard the domains of governmental sites and official organizations to be quite authoritative because of the large amounts of quality, factual content on these sites. These gov sites are made authoritative by their government findings, statistics and other raw data. It is a well known fact that these domains are protected and secured very well. The authority the search engines assigns to these sites flows through also to the outbound links coming off of these sites – making them highly sought after backlinks by many in the SEO world. SEO professionals will want to take advantage of the backlinks from gov sites because their clients and webmasters can use text links from these sites to gain a nice Page Rank boost for their target site. However, these types of links are very subtle and not everyone can get them. This is because, with the integrity the government agencies and organizations put into and maintain in these sites, there are high security measures attached to them.

So how do you get these valuable links then? Unlike other backlinks, it will not work to simply e-mail the site administrator or web master requesting to use the link. Your chances of actually getting a backlink in such a case is almost nil. It is worthwhile now to look at methods to get gov links.

One way to get a gov link is to become an expert in subject matter that is related to the type of government sites you are targeting to win links from. Once you are able to establish this content matter on your site, you will need to begin research on what gov sites you want to request links from and e-mail each one. You have to be sure to personalize any e-mail you send, because form e-mail will probably just be disregarded. For many though, this process is extremely time-consuming and too tedious.

Another way to get gov backlinks is to create linkbait. What is linkbait? This is the process of creating an "expert article," tool or some other piece of online media that will attract the attention of the government niche sites you are seeking links from. Once again though, this is often time-consuming and can be quite expensive. And this makes no mention of the fact that, despite all your resources and time spent building the linkbait, it may not be successful and you may end up where you started – with no gov links at all. There are still other ways to get gov links.

If you search long enough, you may stumble upon a blog that is sitting on a .gov domain that allows comments. Unfortunately, if you are able to find a blog like this, which there are a few, they could be loaded with bad links. What does "bad links" refer to?Basically, the links you may choose to use from these places can have a detrimental effect on you search engine rankings. Many times you will get web spam links like gambling links, pharma/drug links, etc. What has happened at these locations is a government agency or association started a blog and forgot to close it down at some point and ne’er do wells (whether actual people or bots) get onto the site and fill it up with web spam links. You do NOT want your link on such link farms.

There is one final way to get a gov backlink (or more than one) to your site. That is to buy gov links. This is probably the most practical choice for most people. We should warn you though – if you do decide to buy gov links, use caution who you purchase them from. Buying links of any variety requires your due diligence and this is especially true with gov backlinks. As there are many “firms” out there that have great websites and appear to be very professional. But once your order is placed, you soon discover that all they can give you are spammy blog links or spam links on link farms. Done right, buying gov links can do wonders for increasing your search engine rankings.
