Rocket Off of the Ground - The 2 Best Exercises to Improve Your Vertical Jump!


During my tenure at the University of Georgia as a strength assistant for the football program I saw a lot of big strong guys that had quite impressive vertical leaps. As a matter of fact, some of our biggest and strongest guys had the best vertical leaps. It was easy to see that these guys also happened to be some of the strongest guys on the team and could out jump some of our basketball players. I am going to give you 2 extraordinary strength building lifts that will give you a workout to improve your vertical jump without any doubt.

1. The Double Arm Kettlebell Swing: For this exercise you will need a kettlebell of moderately heavy resistance. As you may know the kettlebell is an ancient strength and conditioning device that has been used by the world's greatest strongmen and athletes of all time. The double arm kettlebell swing is the base lift performed with the ancient bell and incorporates hundreds of your muscles at once in order to complete this single task. To perform the swing you must pick the kettlbell up with both hands and swing it from between your legs up to chest level. This is done by performing what is known as the hip snap which consists of you having to flex and extend fluently and constantly throughout the exercise. This drill will certainly increase your standing vertical jump.

2. The Double Arm Overhead Swing: For this exercise you will need the same thing as I mentioned for the basic double arm swing. The only difference between this drill and the basic swing is that you will swing the kettlebell completely above your head. When you do this with the same weight you will quickly find that it takes much more explosive effort to build enough momentum to swing it all the way overhead. This exercise is great for building on your vertical jump muscles. Trust me, if you implement both of these drills your squat vertical jump will soar. You will be rocketing yourself off of the ground in no time. Remember that anyone can train hard, but only champions train smart!
