American Single Moms - Earn your Degrees with Full Government Assistance

After Barack Obama took office as American President, educational reforms made a rapid progress both at the federal and state levels. One important reform is the scholarship program for the American single mothers who left their college education half way. The President's new stimulus package has provision for non refundable money in the form of Pell grants. The Pell grants are provided to the qualified applicants who meet certain eligibility criteria.

In US, the Pell grants are usually given to undergraduate students who undergo recognized educational programs in the participating schools and universities. Many of the American women leave their studies in this stage because of marriage and other related reasons; they are given financial assistance on the basis of their family history, number of children, aptitude and general income level. In exceptional cases Pell grants are given to students enrolled in post-baccalaureate teacher certification program also.

The President Obama has increased the Pell grant amount for the current year. The maximum Pell grant for the year 2009-2010 (July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010) is $5350.An eligible applicant may receive the Pell grant depending on the school fees, nature of course, duration etc.

One who desires to get Pell grant must apply to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) program of the Federal United States. The general eligibility conditions for securing a grant under Pell grant programs are as follows:

1. One must be a US Citizen or an eligible non citizen
2. Must have completed high school studies and eligible for higher education
3. A valid social security number
4. A certificate to the effect that the grant would be spent solely for meeting educational expenses.

A personal Identification Number (PIN) is another important requirement for completing the FAFSA form. It is an electronic access code and a personal identifier. The personal identification number can be obtained from the PIN website of the US department of education.

All grants under this category are paid to American moms irrespective of race, color or age and therefore a great relief to them. Now they are eligible for further tax credit also. The obama and his administrators really deserve appreciation for helping American moms.
