Pay per clicks are a very effective form of advertising, if used correctly. You bid to have search engines like Google to display your sponsored ad. You pay for every click they bring you.

The tricky part is making the most out of your pay per click campaigns. Below are 4 tips to having a good pay per click campaign.


1. You can save money on bidding if you create ads that get attention. Ads that get the most click throughs get better ad placement. Even if someone paid more than you, you'll get priority of great ad placement and it'll cost a lot less!

One way to get attention is to put in the keywords you bid on into your ad. When your ad is displayed, the keywords will be in bold writing.

Another helpful tool is to use certain power words that tend to bring in click throughs. For example, if you have a free report to give out, make sure you include that in your ad. Almost anything with the words “free” will get you noticed.


2. Put on an attractive display url. You get two urls. One is where you have you traffic directed to. The second is what is put on display in your ad. So if you’re giving out a free report, this is how you could use this effectively.

By picking the display url you want, you can insert power words.


3. You don’t have to bid on the most common words to get a good response. Obviously bidding on keywords like “online marketing” will cost you a lot of money and you might not get good placement. Placing on more specialized niche words can still get you traffic. Use a tool like Wordtracker to find used but not heavily trafficked key words so you can lower your costs.


4. Watch how you format your ad, or else the search engine will remove it. For instance, Google doesn’t allow capitalized words or exclamation marks. If you have these, they’ll yank out your ad, even if you’re doing well! Make sure to check their guidelines.
