A Lonely Soldier's Treasured Dog Tag, A Story of Love
Matt, A Private First Class in the Army was looking across the vast area of the desert as he sat silent and still, thinking as though he had been in this war for more than the 15 months he had been assigned in Iraq.Parting behind few friends, but a loving family, Matt was creating to feel as though being so faraway from home was starting to take its toll on him mentally and emotionally.
Certainly, he had friends, other Army partners that were going through the same circumstances. Admittedly, however, a lot of them had husbands or wives back home that held them going with everyday letters and phone calls. Every time one of the other soldiers would hurry up to phone just to take a call or when its time to catch a mail, Matt would just simply feel the sadness of being alone once more simply because expected cookies from his mother and a letter from his sibling would arrived for him.
But, he had a job to accomplish and he experienced strongly about his position overseas. As he said to himself that it would take a long time for him to have a typical living, with a normal ways that a normal friends do and a usual relationship for him to have for life. Matt's mother has been forcing to take care of him but he did not obey. The one time he had permitted her to do so, it had come with devastating ending. The girl, Aimee, was faithfully against the war and was more than prepared to impart her point of view with him in letters and phone calls. He felt as though not only was she unable to comprehend what he was going through, but she also did nothing to make him feel assisted in his military undertakings, which was essential, given the daily consequence he took with his life to defend those he treasured about back home.
Aside from that, Matt has undergone a terrible incident that causes his eyes to turn red. But though that day was so bad for all the soldiers, unknowingly that day changed everything for Matt.It was mail call and Matt was not anticipating anything. His mother had already him a care package in advance in the week and his family had written to him last week. Matt was stunned when he heard his name, amazed if his mother had sent him a quick note. |Matt was taken aback as he heard his name being mentioned for a mail received. Matt tries to look at the letter he had as though he received the letter by mistake as he saw the unfamiliar hand print in the letter. But, as he questioned himself he noticed that the letter was exactly addressed to him so he never asked again. As Matt, began to read and rips the letter, he noticed the fancy handwritings was owned by a woman named Amber. She was a friend of his sister's and joined on her community tennis team. Her letter was a starting one, informing Matt about her and asking if he wanted to be pen pals of sorts. Matt laugh quietly at her audacity, but enjoyed how warm and open she appeared in her letter. So, taking a chance, he wrote her back.
For a month or two, their letters went recurrent as they began to develop a friendship. She was open, humorous, sincere and kind in her letters. She told him funny little tales about her life, anecdotes about her social circle and made him feel entirely attached to a life he was excited to work on upon going home. He delighted her with military jokes, tales of helping many communities they met on mission and was truthful with her about the threats he tackled on a daily basis. Over time, there letters had begun to take on a romantic trace, but neither of them had admitted Even though it was generally through letters and the rare phone call, Matt felt like he recognized Amber better than he had ever recognized anyone before.
One day, Matt was given a little package from Amber. Typically, she just sent letters, so he was strange about what could be inside of the package. He ripped into it, eager to see it could be, only to find a smaller package within the larger one. He unwrapped the smaller package to find a set of sterling silver dog tag. There was also a Polaroid of another tag in the box. The tag was decorated with a message to him with one half of the writing on the first tag and the second half on the other.
As soon as he has received the tag, his tough and difficult seemed to disappear from thin air. He went to the communications palce and made a rare phone call to Amber. He informed her how much the tags meant to him and lastly spoken how much she meant to him as well. She said she was already holding the second tag and wanted him to put on his at all times so they could feel attached.one with each other. Matt told her how much he had come to fret for her and depend on her letters and calls. He knew he was well on his process to falling in love with her and told her so. Amber spoken the same and the two agree to continue with their romantic bond however with a warning because they were doing so long-distance. The tags began the physical proof of their courtship and Amber promised to used it every day; Matt did as well.
As time passed slowly, Matt became so attached with this dog tag that he feels like putting his fingers through it every time he goes to sleep. For the next six months Matt finished his second tour of work in Baghdad, He always looks at his dog tag as his lifeline, thinking about the woman on the other half of it, loving him.
He at last got his instructions to ship out home for an long leave. After long work overseas, Matt felt a great sense of release in lastly getting to go back to his family and of course, Amber.Finally On the timely plane ride to the States and on the bus ride back to his hometown, Matt glanced at his dog tag and wondered if he would feel awkward upon meetingAmber in person. Would she be delighted to see him? Would she still consider the same?
As soon as he stepped out of the bus, he instantly searched for his family. He didn't see them, but a sparkle caught his eye. It was the shine of the identical dog tag and he looked up and saw Amber's face. Sweeping her into his arms, Matt took her around and thrilled in the joy on her face.
