Living Without Fear

Fear can have strong impact in your life. It affects almost everything you do. If you have a 9 to 5 job, the fear of losing it will determine your waking hours during the week days, which in turn affects the time you go to bed the previous night. The time you go to sleep will in turn gives you a fix window of time after coming back from the to sort out your personal and family lives. Fear has probably stopped you from switching your job, falling in love, writing the book that you always wanted or starting your own business. You will miss out in life if you let fear go unattended.

Can you imagine a life without fear? Of course you totally cannot eliminate fear. It is hard-wired to the human body. Fear is triggered when the body senses danger to itself and this is good. It has kept the human race surviving for thousands of years. It will be disastrous if you cross a busy freeway without any sense of fear. But imagine. Imagine living a life without any unfounded fear holding you back. Living the way you have always dreamt of.

If you have no fear of failure, wouldn’t you start your own business. Wouldn’t you write that novel you been planning. If you have no fear of rejection, wouldn’t you just let yourself fall in love.

How do stop yourself from being unnecessarily fearful? First, you must accept the fact that the body has an in-built mechanism to protect itself from any physical danger. This mechanism has made human the dominant species on earth. Secondly, you must realise that your body cannot differentiate between real and imagined danger. It simply gives you the warning signs like a pounding heart, sweaty palms, shallow breathing, tightening muscles, and so on. Fear can be intimidating and debilitating. Next, you must understand that fear is just a feeling. If you do not allow it, fear cannot hold you back from achieving your goals. Fear only has power over you when you let it. Without fear holding you back, your life can be more meaningful and exhilarating.

Diffuse fear. Do it in the heat of the moment. This can be done in a variety of ways, including the use of calming affirmations, meditation, and breath work. When you calm the thoughts that are triggering the fear response, your body will automatically calm down too. A good way is to focus on your breathing. Also you must remember that the present moment is what matters, the past is no more and the future is what you make out of it. Just dismiss your fears from your mind and replace it with positive thoughts.

Another useful way to overcome your fears is dismantling your fears. To do this you need to have a pen and paper and a comfortable place where you are not disturbed. Write down your fears and ponder upon it. What is the cause? Is it valid? If it is then write down ways to overcome and take action.
