Remembering People as God Views It

During my time in first grade, we had three reading sections. Section one used a yellow book; group two a red book. The third group (the slow readers) read out of the green book. In second grade, where there once had been a third group, there now were the Blue Jays. I am not sure if it felt easier to go forward when the Blue Jays were called. The class still realized they were the lowest group by seeing who was in the group and by hearing them read out loud. These students could not read any more improved, but they were no longer in the third group. They were now Blue Jays.

Then janitors transformed into custodians, and custodians gave way to sanitation engineers. I think they are back to custodians. Teachers aids transformed to teachers assistance and secretaries cast away to become administrative assistants. We figured out that the title Miss might seem demeaning because it told the world that she was single, while Mr. gave no such detail about a man. So we substituted Ms. for all ladies, but it somehow did not catch on for married ladies. So Miss is now in some circles Ms. It seems to me that all is absent were two letters (is) and the determination of if this is important depends on what your thoughts of is - is.

We as a group determined that it is not right to keep individuals in mental institutions. So we closed the institutions and we now call many of these same individuals as homeless.

The Lord makes His desire very distinct when it is regarding His command concerning the widows and orphans. But we do not have an orphan problem. We dealt with the orphan situation. Someone perceived all the orphans and renamed them foster care kids. If there were orphans it would be the churches responsibility out of necessary obedience, to embrace them. But what orphans? When was the last time you saw an orphanage?

The list of ways that we conquer (conceal the problems of communities with language repeats itself. I am sure you have considered a few as you read. But my perspective is solely this. God gave the orphan to His Church, to love and care for. Changing the name does not change the command, and; while we can fool ourselves and others, we cannot, and are not, fooling God. God knows that what is is no matter what we call it.
