Free Credit Reports: Every US Citizen is Entitled to a Free Annual Credit Report

Free credit reports are in high demand, this is because the state of the global economy, as i am sure you are all aware, is bad, very bad and has been for some time now and the ramifications of this are that a lot of people who previously had good credit reports have been missing or have been late for payments due to personal cash flow problems and financial restraints and unfortunately, as a result, have damaged their credit scores.

Never having been in this situation it is understandable that they are somewhat concerned about how they can get their credit repaired and back to a level where it once was. In order to repair their credit they will need to know exactly what is on their credit reports and they will need to contact each of the three credit bureaus; Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, to request a copy from each.

What many people are unaware of is that they are entitled to a free report from each one of the bureaus every 12 months, this lack of awareness is often utilized by companies that will offer free reports but will try to sell a supplementary product as well.

They will still receive their free credit reports but only once they have either bought a repair product or signed up for a service that entails some form of monthly payment. This isn't to say that the services and products they are being offered are useless, in fact in many cases they are not and are actually very useful; but if all that is required are the free credit reports then it is best to go directly to the credit bureaus with such a request.

You can't blame the companies for doing this, they are only taking advantage of a lack of public awareness that has been caused by the reluctance of the government and consumer groups to advertise the consumer laws regarding free credit reports, and they are certainly not scamming anyone, as they always deliver on what they say they can.
