Why Increasing the Amount of Meat You Eat is Bad for You

Diets such as the 'Atkins' diet recommend a diet high in fat and low in carbohydrates; how on earth can a diet that suggests increasing the consumption of the very thing we are trying to lose be able to work or be good for you?

The truth is that fad diets such as the Atkins diet play on our naivety and quite often the reasons given for how they manage to achieve weight loss are nonsensical as there is only one way to lose weight, FACT, and that is to burn more calories than you consume, and not by increasing your protein levels or by omitting carbohydrates from your diet.

There are many meats that are bad for you as they possess a high fat content, these include bacon, ham, salami, pepperoni, fried chicken etc; as you can see all of these are processed meats or contain the most hated word in dieting, 'fried'! Too much fatty meat will block your arteries and cause kidney damage it can also cause problems in the digestive system as well as, in the worst cases, causing blood poisoning and cancer.

However, meat is a valuable source of protein and as such should not be ruled out of our diets completely, although vegetarians would tell you that you need to stop eating meat altogether and replace it with protein rich seeds and vegetables.

I personally subscribe to the school of the balanced diet and everything in controlled moderation is acceptable, though where meat is concerned, it would be advisable to eat lean white meats such as chicken rather than fattier red meats.

So to conclude, meat, as with so many other foods we love and enjoy, can be very bad for us if we do not control and monitor the fat content and how much we consume of it. When used as part of a calorie shifting diet program it adds to the variety of foods we can eat and makes using this type of diet very enjoyable.
