In an effort to reach out to Moms across the country, Obama has set aside money for Moms to go back to school and further their education. In a time when money seems to be getting tighter and tighter, Obama wants moms to feel empowered to get more education and get better jobs. And he's backing it up with money to help them do it.
There are several different aspects to Obama's plan for Scholarships for Moms. Because there are different aspects, moms in different financial situations are more likely to find a program that will benefit them and their situation.
Federal Pell Grant- To be fair, the Federal Pell Grant existed before Obama took office. What he's done, however, is raised the maximum benefit from $4050 to $5100. This boost is geared to help lower-income participates (hoping them to be moms) more money to get their education.
American Opportunity Tax credit- This sweet little tax credit means that the first $4000 of your education is free. That's right! You'll get a $4000 credit on your income taxes for going back to school.
Obama's "Moms Return to School" Grant Scholorship- If moms want to get a continued education but don't want to commute to a campus, this program is designed for them. Online study is the focus of this program.
With these programs open for moms who want to further their education to get better, higher-paying jobs that offer more security, getting a leg up in this economy is one giant step closer.
