| Obama Administration Encourages All Moms to Go Back To School |
President Obama has increased the amount of federal money available for grants and student aid. The new Pell Grant amount is $5,500 with additional relief in the form of tax credits available, depending on family size and income. This form of financial aid does not have to be repaid. When learners become earners, they will not face a staggering amount of student loans to pay back. And, enterprising potential students may find other scholarship money they can use in addition to the "Moms Back to School" grants.
There are very traditional scholarships available for high grade point averages and/or athletic achievement. But there are some very unusual categories of scholarships as well. Are you very tall? Do you want to work in children's media productions? Just a couple of examples of these "specialty" scholarships. They take a bit of digging and creativity to find, but think of it as a treasure hunt. Then combine different scholarships with the increased amount of Pell Grant money, and that college degree begins to look much more doable.
One word of caution: There are tons of scams associated with these programs. If you apply through the U. S. Department of Education website, you can feel secure that the information is legitimate and the information you provide is secure. You can also feel comfortable getting and giving information to any college officer. There are also legit programs out there that give out scholarships for free for anyone (not just moms) in need of money for school.
