| President Obama's Plan to Offer Scholarships to Moms |
President Obama has long advocated for moms, who want to go back to school but for financial reasons, would never consider it a real possibility. As a result, a program was announced earlier this year, in cooperation with nonprofit organizations that made available up to $10,000, to mothers, who wished to go to college. Applicants would be entitled to different forms of financial assistance, that would make the dream of being awarded a college degree, a reality.
As we all know, moms have the most difficult and most demanding job in the world. As such, a part of this program offers a significant percentage of total funds, which is a maximum of $4000, to be used for tuition, college fees, as well as personal expenses. This would include paying for utilities, hiring a babysitter, food, etc. This money would come in the form a grant and there would be no need to pay it back. Additionally, they would also receive a tax credit for the above funds. Ofcourse, applicants must checkout the Federal Aid Financial Student Assistance program and complete the application. The government will determine general eligibility, based on the information given, which typically involves entering personal tax information, work history, number of children in household, total net income, as well as indicating universities or colleges, an applicant plans to attend.
Furthermore, the President's plan allows applicants to carefully choose a college or university that interests them personally, in terms of selecting a desirable major, campus location, as well as favorable tuition rates or financial aid. Moms are allowed to choose an accredited and government approved distance learning or online school, which may be more convenient. These schools are now part of the mainstream, offer real degrees that require a lot of hard work, including class participation, projects, term papers, exams and homework. They are certainly a viable alternative for applicants with inflexible schedules.
Lastly, moms under this program are allowed to apply for other readily available scholarships, grants or loan programs on the Internet, in their state or county, to cover the remaining tuition in it's entirety. There are many websites on the Internet, to research possible matches to one's interests and taking the time to make inquiries, ask specific questions, check a particular company's record on customer satisfaction, is suggested.
It's important to keep in mind, that any scholarships, grants or student loans that are awarded to applicants prior to getting approved for the President's program, might be required to disclose this information to the FAFSA group, in order for government coordinators to more accurately, best determine an individual's financial need.
