    Wrong Ways to Remove Mold

There are many products and techniques for removing mold, but not all of them are effective, or even safe. Sometimes knowing what not to do is more important than knowing what to do.

    Bleach

Many people believe that bleach is the only way to kill mold, but bleach is very strong and can affect people and pets adversely. Other commercial chemical products claim to kill mold, but it is often not their primary purpose. If it doesn't work the first time, you may be tempted to start using other products on top of it. It is never a good idea to mix chemicals if you are not absolutely sure what's in them, or how they react with each other.

    Carpets

Mold can grow on carpets, and often more deeply than you can see. Spray cleaners may only get the surface mold and leave some behind. Even dead mold spores can be toxic, or cause allergic reactions. Carpets can retain mold spores for a long time, posing a risk to you and your pets.

    Dehumidifier

Some believe that using a dehumidifier in winter and an air conditioner in summer is enough to keep mold away, but this is not always the case. If you do get mold, a dehumidifier or air conditioner will not be sufficient in getting rid of it, because neither are effective in drying an area enough to remove mold, or prevent more from growing.

    Mold Problems

If you avoid these pitfalls, you can keep possible mold problems from getting worse, and perhaps prevent them from happening at all.
