Ways To Identify A Learning Disability


Many children suffer from learning or studying difficulties, however, it does not always mean that they suffer from learning disabilities. Here, we take a look at how you can determine whether your child is suffering from this particular problem or not.

Each student has at some point faced a set back or a problem during the learning process which might or might not indicate learning incapacity. Certain symptoms are related to the disorder though and help in understanding it's general nature and the treatment required to fix it.

Initially kids, suffering from this incapacity also exhibit signs of delayed development. These delays can be fixed , however , with help from special teaching programs. Underachievement or signs that your child is underperforming regarding his age are also alert indications of a learning incapacity. If the child is not able to grasp what's being taught even after repeated steering, then the problem may be quite significant.

A few other signs that may point towards a learning disability include:

* Grades don't match the amount of effort put in

* Cannot understand the meaning of written content.
* Problems in conversing with others.

in addition to these signs, children having learning incapacities also go through many behavioral changes. Such changes may be both- internal and external. In case your youngster suffers from internal changes, it is very much possible that these changes pass through unobserved. But youngsters with external behavioral changes often trouble others around them.

If it's an internal change related to learning incapacity, the most common change found in the child is a total disinterest in most things. Such children sometimes prefer to keep quiet and keep to themselves. They also have a tendency to become disorganised and inattentive to their environment. They may also exhibit symptoms of becoming an introvert.

External behavioral changes affect the children in quite the opposite manner and can also be easily spotted. These kids tend to become loud and brash and also seek continuous attention, going to any lengths to gain it including giving the wrong answers in class. Aggression and ruthlessness both become key traits of their nature.

If you notice any of these signs or signals in your child, chances are that he may be suffering from a learning disability. In case you find any of these symptoms in your child, start keeping a track of his activities. This will help you understand his behavior better. Also, make a note of the strategies that you are using to handle his problem. Take your child to the doctor at the earliest to have a correct diagnosis of the problem done.

The best way however, to solve the problem is to take the child to the doctor for a correct diagnosis and therapy which suits the child's individual needs. While learning disability may sound scary, with proper treatment, it could very well be completely eliminated from your child's life as well as yours.
