Strength Training Doesn't Always Equate to Just Weightlifting!

If you think that you must have the availability of a huge weight-room in order to get stronger then you are hugely mistaken. I want to talk about how strength can be obtained in other ways besides lifting a barbell.

For starters, if you have read some of my other material on building strength you know that it takes the act of muscular tension in order to build strength. When you tension a muscle over and over then it responds by creating force to produce tension and to lift and move various objects. The more tension that is applied the more force you can produce, therefore the stronger you become provided the load doesn't exceed your personal abilities and compromise your technique.

There are many ways to produce this muscular tension in order for you to build strength. You can utilize materials such as sandbags, water buckets, and lifting tires just to name a few. The fact is that your body can't tell the difference in you lifting a pair of dumbells or a couple of 5 gallon water buckets. The truth is that the functional strength that you are looking for to optimize your athletic performance or overall fitness can be achieved through a little creativity. Of course, lifting weights is great, but if you prefer alternative methods to train or you just don't have the resources of a power gym at your fingertips, then this alternative style of training should be just for you.

Even if you have the resources of a fully stocked strength and conditioning facility available to you that doesn't mean that you shouldn't attempt alternative methods to gaining strength. Just remember that strength training doesn't always equate to just weightlifting!
