| Scoring Panoramic Photos For Use With the Fastback PhotoPress |
Before you bind panoramic photos with the Powis Parker Fastback PhotoPress, you must first score them in the center so that they fold properly in the book. We recommend using the Powis Scoring Machine for this purpose, which will help you score your photos easily and accurately. The Scoring Machine can be used with either a single score, or a double score die. For photo scoring, you will need the single score die. If you already have a Scoring Machine, the Single Score Die may be ordered separately since the machine comes with the double scoring die when you buy it.
Before you Begin
Familiarize yourself with the names of the parts of the Powis Scoring Machine. For more information, see the Powis Scoring Machine User's Manual. Knowing how to use the fastback scoring machine will make using the PhotoPress with panoramic photos far easier.
Scoring Procedures
1. On the back of one of the panoramic photos, carefully measure and mark the center of the photo. If you are setting up the scoring process with a photo that you intend to use in the book, be careful to avoid marring the front of the photo. Do not use a permanent marker or other marker than might bleed through the emulsion side of the photo. If you are using a ballpoint pen, be careful to apply only the lightest possible pressure.
2. Slip the panoramic photograph under the Scoring Die, face down. Align the center mark so that it falls directly under the score line.
3. Clamp the photo in place by turning the lever to the right.
4. Adjust the Paper Alignment Stop so that it butts against the edge of the panoramic photo at stop #1. Tighten the Centering Guide Locking Knob. The Scoring Machine is now set up. As long as all your panoramic photos are the same size, and the Centering Guide is properly tightened down, the Scoring Guide should not need further adjustment. This will help to make the process of scoring photos both fast and easy.
5. Now turn the lever back to the center and remove the photo from under the die. Turn the photo face up and slip it back under the Scoring Die so that it again butts against the edge of the Paper Alignment Stop at stop #1.
6. Turn the Lever to the left to score the photo. Do not hold down the photo with your hand while you are scoring. Holding down the photo will cause the score to shift slightly to one side.
7. Proceed scoring all other panoramic photos face up.
Following these instructions, you will be ready to create high quality panoramic photos using the Powis Parker Fastback Photopress. Once you have your photos scored you will be ready to assemble your photobook using double signatures. This will allow you to create a wonderful lay flat panoramic layout in your photobook / album.
