Fastback Model 11 Tips and Tricks For Better Binding Results

Binding documents with a Powis Parker Fastback Model 11 binding machine is actually very simple. However, there are a few things that you can do to help make sure the binding process goes as smoothly as possible. This article is designed to provide a few important tips for using your Fastback machine. Keep these things in mind and you should have far fewer problems binding your important documents, reports, presentations and proposals.

1.Before binding a document, be sure that the pages are even. Tap the document several times on the top of the machine. Don't be afraid to tap vigorously. Fastback binding machines are rugged and designed for production use. If the pages of your document are not completely flush and aligned when you place them in the machine they will not be flush or aligned when the binding process is complete.

2.For best results it is important to make sure that the grain of the paper runs parallel to the binding edge of your document. All papers have a grain direction which simply means that the fibers from the paper run in one direction or the other. If the grain of your paper runs parallel to the longer side of the sheet, the paper is grain long. If the grain of your paper runs parallel to the shorter side of the sheet, it is grain short. Grain long paper will give you a better bind than grain short paper will. Most standard copy papers are grain long which will help you to achieve a better quality bind. However, there are some specialty papers that are grain short. It is always best to test new papers before you use them to bind large numbers of document. It is better to be safe than sorry.

3.Index tabs and dividers can enhance a Fastbound™ document's functionality and appearance, and certain tabs work very well. However, before selecting tabs, we recommend you call your Fastback dealer for advice on the proper tabs to use. Certain tabs do not work well in Fastbound documents. We recommend testing all tabs before binding large numbers of documents.

4.Authorized Fastback dealers will sell you genuine Powis Parker Fastback binder strips. However, there are several companies who sell generic copies of the Fastback binding strips. These standard binding strips have been known to cause problems with the Fastback model 11 and may not always operate properly. In fact, using non Powis Parker Fastback strips in your machine can actually void your warranty.

5.If you have problems with your binding strips only binding partially or ending up askew you may have adhesive built up on the heater plate of your machine. For best results it is important to regularly clean your heater plate using "Icky Sticky Stuff Remover". This compound has been tested on Fastback machines and won't damage the heater plate of your unit.

These are a few simple tips for getting the best results out of your Fastback Model 11 binding machine. However, if you have questions you may want to consider calling an authorized Fastback dealer. They should be able to help.
