Royal Sotogrande Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones' which was his first ,b>golf course design on the Costa del Sol Spain and opened to the public in 1964, and is considered to be in the top ten of Europe's finest and forms part of the "Golden Triangle" with Valderrama and San Roque.

Royal Sotogrande Golf itself, is located in perfectly natural surrounding and this very special design has matured beautifully over the years. The mature trees and natural vegetation that follow the wide luscious fairways enhance the beauty, which make this a pleasure to play.

The holes are varied with a good mixture of varying lengths and degrees of difficulty particularly where the water starts to encroach on to the golf course. This is particularly noticeable towards the end of the round and it has the ability to ruin a good card.

The strategically placed bunkers, water hazards and the fast greens at Royal Sotogrande Golf do not make it any easier, another feature is the wind that has the habit of picking up during the round that gives the golfer no respite.

The greens are large and the tees are very long, some would say excessively so, but they allow for variations in pin placement and the length of hole. The contours of the greens are typical Trent Jones and the bunkers were the first in Europe to be filled with brilliant white crushed marble. Another first for Royal Sotogrande Golf was the use of Bermuda grass on fairways.

Royal Sotogrande Golf is a club with extremely high standards where golf naturally comes first. You must ensure you have your handicap certificate with you and some form of identification. The clubhouse has recently been modernised and looks out over the first tee and eighteenth green.

On arrival at Royal Sotogrande Golf Course you will find ample parking, clubhouse and well-stocked pro shop. There are good changing facilities and although the course can be easily walked, there are buggies on offer. The clubhouse also provides bar and snack facilities as well as a restaurant.
