La Cala Golf Europe on the Costa del Sol Golf

La Cala Golf Europe on the Costa del Sol Golf was opened in March 2005 and is Costa del Sol’s and in fact Spain’s largest and arguably most impressive golf course.

Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and always absolutely immaculately maintained, all three courses are a real pleasure to play and offer their own unique experiences and challenges.

La Cala Golf Europe’s fairways are generous and the tees and the greens are slightly larger than on the existing golf courses giving a welcome relief for the more modest golfer, they are not severely contoured but are well bunkered and will be easier for the average golfer.

La Cala Golf Europe is a par 71 golf course measuring 6014 metres in length.

La Cala Golf Europe is different from the other two golf courses because of the river Ojen.

Cabell B. Robinson the designer is one of the best regarded golf course designers in Europe. He worked with the legendary Robert Trent Jones in the USA from 1967 until 1970 when he was appointed to head up the Trent Jones operation in Europe.

In September 1987, Cabell left Mr Jones´ office to establish his own design practice; his first projects were La Cala Golf South and La Cala Golf North courses.

During the ensuing years he has continued to work throughout the Mediterranean and the rest of Europe.

The design of La Cala Golf Europe also features four tunnels for golf carts and maintenance machinery. In total there are concrete golf cart paths measuring 20,000 m2.

The most distinctive factors of La Cala Golf Europe are the 14th which is at the maximum limit of what is allowed for a par 3 at 233 metres, and the 11th which is the longest hole on the golf course, this par 5 measures 524 metres in length.

The resort has the only David Leadbetter golfing academy in Spain, and so if you are a beginner or need your swing touching up then why not get lessons from some of the finest.
