El Candado Golf was founded in 1925 and is considered by many to be one of the golfing pioneers of the Costa del Sol Golf.
Situated in a valley just five kilometres east of Málaga this golf course benefits from easy access to Malaga Airport and beyond to the Costa del Sol, Spain.
El Candado Golf Course was carefully and expertly designed by Carlos Fernández.
The course was chosen by the PGA European Tour as the venue of the inaugural match of the Tourespaña Andalusian Master Open in 1992. Introduced in 1941, the club has hosted the Iberian Cup for the last fifty years.
One part of the golf course stretches parallel to the sea while another is set between avenues of strategically placed trees. The surroundings are home to hundreds of parakeets adding a splash of colour to the country club and filling the environs and the natural saltwater lagoons with their song.
This nine hole golf course which opened in 1968 and which, although just 2,362 metres long, the course offers the visiting player to the Costa del Sol Golf a fair test of golf particularly on the small undulating greens.
Many of Spain’s great golf players including several renowned professionals have learnt their trade at El Candado Golf Course which is notoriously complicated, short, and uneven.
Technique is called for at El Candado Golf not brute strength.
The 4th hole, a par-5, is the most complicated, as there is a curve to the left, which complicates play from the tee to the green.
Advance booking is essential and a valid handicap certificate from the player’s home club is required.
Sailing, windsurfing and other nautical activities may also be enjoyed on the neighboring marina.
