Do you know what the number one type of toy in the toy industry is? Action figures. Astounded? Each year more and more new toy companies arise and jump onto the toy scene with their own depiction of action figures. Aside from new toy companies arriving on the scene, established toy companies expand their line. Why are these companies frantically creating more action figures? Supply and demand.
The biggest revenue grossing form of entertainment in the World is movies. Every year hundreds of movies are released in thousands of theaters worldwide. The hype these movie companies give to their new releases is huge; not to mention their advertising campaigns. Their business doesn’t end there. The toy manufacturers work with the film companies to license the characters from the film. The licensed toy item that the public wants the most is action figures. These action figures are sought after by collectors, children, adults, consumers, just about everybody .
What makes them so popular? Perhaps, it’s the accessories that each mostly likely comes with. Accessories can include various weapons, base stands for display, changeable heads with various facial expressions, clothes, etc. Just about all that is related to that character is going to be an accessory. Some of the large sized figures come with authentic sound clips from the movie the characters star in. These quotes are direct quotes from the film that the character has brought to life.
Another aspect of appeal is the concentration to detail and artistry involved. Action figures are artistic creations in that these film characters are 1 dimensional. A sculptor has to re-create these amusing characters to scale in a 3-dimensional configuration. One can only be astonished by noticing the artistic ability involved. I hate to say it, but I’ve noticed that no 2 figures are alike. Since some figures are hand painted, each action figure is extraordinary. Don’t get me wrong, each one will appear alike, but if you take that extra minute or two and observe, you’ll find that each one has its own unique qualities.
So, the next time you venture to your nearby movie theater and engage yourself in a new release, just remember that there is a good chance that the character you’re watching on the silver screen could eventually be the next addition to your action figure collection!
