Top 10 tips to burn more calories during your normal day
Wouldn’t it be great if we could burn more calories without exercising, eating less, or changing our daily routine? (If I read ‘get off the bus a stop early’ anywhere else I will scream!)
The tips below will enable us to do just that. Okay, it’s not going to be a huge amount, you won’t lose 5lb in a week following these, but it all adds up, and if we burn a few extra calories everyday we can have a treat at the weekend. Mine is usually a glass of wine……yours could be chocolate, cake, or you could be very virtuous and just lose an extra lb or 2 over a few weeks.
1. FIDGET. Tap your feet, jiggle your leg, gesticulate when you talk, drum your fingers and wiggle your toes. Apparently fidgeting can burn an extra 350 calories a day. That is a lot!!
2. SIT UP STRAIGHT. When we sit up straight, we use more muscles around the core area – stomach and lower back. This uses more calories in itself and as muscles become stronger we burn more calories when doing nothing!
3. DRINK COLD WATER. When we drink cold things our bodies use calories to warm them up. And water is really good for us in loads of other ways too.
4. LAUGH. Laughing uses lots of muscles, so as well as feeling good we are burning calories.
5. PUT THE SHOWER ON COLD FOR A FEW SECONDS. Not so nice this one but a blast for a few seconds of cold water burns calories as we warm up.
6. EAT CHILLI. Or other spicy foods as they cause our metabolism to speed up
7. SING. Loudly, when you are cleaning, cooking, sitting in the car. Just make sure the windows are shut if you are tone deaf like me!
8. DO 10 SQUATS WHEN CLEANING YOUR TEETH. Easy enough but cleaning teeth twice a day = 20 squats a day = toned bum and legs in no time!
9. KISS. Much nicer, kissing burns calories, yey!
10. GET OFF THE BUS A STOP EARLY. Only joking, but do try and be more active and stand whenever you can, so when your on the phone, ironing, doing your make up etc, get up. You use about an extra 40 calories standing instead of sitting.
So there you have it, 10 easy ways to burn a few extra calories without going to the gym, or even breaking a sweat!
