| To Achieve Great Physical Fitness and Optimal Total-Body Performance You Must Be Open Minded! |
I really have little patience with people who are not open to different ideas and suggestions on training. I don't care if you are a trainer, strength coach, client, or self professed expert if you think that you have all the answers on training and achieving total body fitness then you are ignorant. The point being that if anyone thinks that their system is the final system and the "only" system then they are closed minded and ignorant.
In order to be the best trainer, strength coach, client, or expert you have to always be open to new ideas. This doesn't mean that someone's philosophy or system isn't effective. Even if your system breeds more results than most it can always be tweaked or fine-tuned to be better. I have always loved the quote that "I have been influenced by many, but defined by none!" This is the truest statement of any successful individual in life. Everyone is influenced.
I have come to an interesting conclusion about the reaction I get from people towards how I train. When I'm handling the kettlebell I usually get approached by one of two types of people. There are the interested individuals who want to know more about what I'm doing, and then there is the envious closed-minded individual who thinks he has all of the answers to training because he thinks he looks good doing a set of dumbell curls while staring at himself in the mirror. What a clown! I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I am trying to make the point that the open minded individual always seems to gain so much more from their personal fitness program. I know because I have witnessed this for years. Just remember that getting in shape is a journey. Along any journey the key is to learn as much as you can about where you are going, but more importantly about who you are!
