Rocket Acceleration - 2 Drills the Athlete Can Practice to Drastically Improve Acceleration Speed!

To improve your acceleration speed means you give yourself an edge in your sport of competition. Whether you are a football wide receiver beating a defensive back off of the line of scrimmage, or a baseball player that just laid down a bunt to try to beat out the throw to first base, acceleration is a necessity. The improvement of your acceleration overall improves your speed. Take a minute to read about the following 2 drills you can use to improve your quick burst.

1. The Pop Belt or Bullet Belt: This is a great little simple device that you can use to quickly improve your acceleration. Your overall fitness and strength training certainly have a major role in your total athletic performance, but this device is a great supplement to help you improve your skill. To begin, you will need a flat open field with plenty of running space. A bullet belt is basically a belt with a velcro strap and handle attached to it. The unique design allows for the runner to attach the belt around the waist. A holder takes grip of the handle which is part of the velcro strap that is designed to release. To execute this drill simply line up on the field with a holder gripping the one end while the runner has the belt attached to the waist. The runner should tension the belt and when ready accelerate hard off of the line causing the strap to detach. The runner should complete the desired full sprint of at least 10 yards. This simple pause-like hold is what tricks the body into being able to pull hard off of the line.

2. Resisted Run and Release: This is another great drill that requires 2 people to execute. For this drill you will need a device that is basically the same thing as the bullet belt except with a solid strap that doesn't detach. This is known as a resisted running harness. This device works the exact same way as the bullet belt except it doesn't come apart. Start this drill the same way as you did with the bullet belt. With the harness you want to fire off of the line running hard with good running mechanics. The holder should resist, but not ANCHOR the runner. Execute the resisting run progressing forward for the first 5 or 6 yards and then the holder simply releases the belt causing the runner to blast off into a high gear sprint. This is a great drill to perform to develop one's strength, linear speed, and overall athletic performance.
