A Guide To First Date Etiquette - What You Should Be Doing

How you get round to your first date also has a bearing on how the event goes, did you just meet in a nightclub? Has a friend set you up on a blind date? Are you meeting someone for the very first time after spending weeks emailing and chatting? Or is this a first date with a friend you have known for years and are seeing if there is more to it? The real truth is although this has a bearing it just doesnt matter as every couple will have their own story and every storys different but there are some basic tips to keep in mind if you want to make it a successful date.

Make sure you are looking your best and spend some time on preparing your wardrobe and grooming yourself for your special evening as your date will undoubtedly notice if you dont. Things like dirty finger or toenails, dodgy clothing or bad breath are some of the first things that can make a date go sour.

Conversation is so important to a first date that it can be the difference between a success or failure. Firstly think about what it is you are going to say, general conversation cannot always be relied upon because really you want to avoid political or religious conversation as keeping things lighter and good humoured is important.

Never talk about past relationships, even if youre asked what happened, then prepare a short answer like we just werent right for each other, rather than talking about every argument you ever had and crying into your drink.

Dont talk about yourself too much and try to be prompted by questions asked rather than randomly talking about yourself all night. Think about questions you will want to ask your date but not too intrusive, the usual ones about careers, brief family questions (not everyone want to share all their family secrets on a first date), pets, sports, hobbies and entertainment and music.

Flirting with your date is also necessary to really spice things up but obviously be guided by your dates reactions, saying they look nice is always a great start or commenting on a part of their outfit you like is a great way to start connecting with someone so long as its based on genuine desire.

Laughing at your dates joke is also a way of making you both feel a little less nervous and help you establish a connection, even if maybe youre not completely impressed with the joke its a way to begin smiling and laughing with each other which helps build a sexual connection especially if you add some small touching gesture with the laughter.
Responding to the conversation or flirtations with interest is crucial and do not look around the room idly, there is nothing worse than trying to connect with someone who is just not interested enough to focus on what youre saying.

Keep the date relatively short in terms of you dont want to run out of things to say and let whatever tension and intrigue you have created fizzle out so make the excuse to get away and leave yourself and your date wanting more rather than looking for the door.
