The Ethics Of Recruitment - How To Hire With Principles

The field of ethics seems far away from the field of recruitment but ethics has its place within every field of business as how we conduct business is very important to reputation and having a good reputation in business means more trusting and loyal customers which gives a long standing and reliable company.

Every business needs to think about who they involve in the recruitment process because at the end of the day it is the human element that hires and so who is hiring and firing is so important that the person involved has to have a scientific and methodical approach and keep personal preferences and prejudices out of their decisions to hire or fire. The other thing is to have at least two decision makers but three is better then, the majority can rule the decision.

It is quite common for people to embellish certain truths usually salary, their full job responsibilities, why they left this job and their educational achievements so checking this information with previous employers is essential. Managers of companies can also lie about why they are hiring someone too and would not want to admit certain problems within their company such as theft or inappropriate behavior amongst staff.

So to find the truth of someones statement, a certain amount of reading between the lines is required and the same for the person being hired, finding out the truth isnt usually achieved in the recruitment process but making every effort to find out certain points in important. Even if someone is putting a more positive spin on something, are they giving you a partial truth or just making up things?

For instance if someone has left a job due to stress, saying they found it too emotionally draining and are now taking the opportunity to start a new career is putting a positive slant on a situation but just saying they felt like a change in career without giving a real reason why is hiding parts of the truth. The recruiting manager can then appreciate the honesty and hire knowing background of stress and can make sure the person is coping with the new job.

Whether you are hiring or being hired using the truth will always help you connect with people and putting a positive spin on a truth that willa have a negative connotation will help you appear open and honest rather than deceitful and untrustworthy. The truth has a way of coming out in the end so why hide it.
