Lat-Strength - 2 Variation Pull-Up Exercises to Give You Great Lat-Strength!

Now I agree that good old fashioned pull-ups are about the best way to build a mega-strong back! However, you can certainly get tremendous results by varying and modifying your pull-ups. I have included 2 different variations of pulls to help you take your back strength to all new heights!

1. Horizontal Pull-Ups: This is a unique way to include a pull-up type movement without the intensity of a regular pull-up. To execute this drill you will need the availability of a barbell and squat rack. You will want to make sure that the barbell is secure on the horizontal bars of the rack. You can either do this on a traditional squat rack or if you have an adjustable bar that is attached to a rack (Like a Smith Machine) this is the best option. From here adjust the bar to where you can lay on the ground below the bar to reach up and grab it while keeping your body suspended. Once you are hanging from the bar you will want to make sure that your body is straight and rigid from your shoulders all the way to your heels. From here all you need to do to execute a rep is to pull yourself up until your chest touches the bar and then descend back down to go again. If you want to assist yourself and work the muscles of your glutes and hamstrings then slightly keep a bend in your knees and push with your heels to assist you in the pull.

2. Single-Leg Horizontal Pull-Ups: This drill is executed in the same exact way as the regular horizontal pull-ups with one difference. When you get into the start position suspended from the bar lift one of your legs off of the ground. This will immediately add intensity to the drill. Quickly adding to your pulling power you can also assist with the glute and hamstring on the single leg just as I described in the regular horizontal pull-ups!
