In today's society the rules of dating have dramatically changed and when it comes to dating, the tradition of the male pursuing the female, asking her out, picking her up and taking her out to dinner and essentially paying simply does not happen anymore.
People are dating in so many ways with so many scenarios it is impossible to list them all but the basic male and female behavior is not so different. Women love to be pursued (by the right man naturally) and men love to feel as though they have the pick of the bunch but modern women dont expect a free meal on every date and whats more actually like to feel financially independent of men.
So here are the rules, if you are the one pursuing male or female then if you're asking someone to dinner or the movies or whatever, then take the issue off the table by saying 'its my treat', then you wont spend the whole date wondering. Of course when you are arranging to go out and say it's on me you will gauge their response if they say that would be lovely then expect to pay, if they say no we can split it then say are you sure? If they really want to pay half and insist on it then just pay half each.
This will depend upon the date itself if its the movies then just agree to Ill get the tickets if you get the popcorn but make sure the issue is resolved before the evening there's nothing worse than awkwardly fighting over the bill, its just not romantic.
