Things To Consider Before Hiring New Staff Members

The decision to hire new staff can be one of the biggest mistakes a company makes and when you get it wrong it can set the growth of a smaller company back by months and even years. A poor decision in this scenario can mean being stuck in a legal battle unable to fire staff that aren't right for your company and also unable to hire decent staff and paying for your decision in pounds.

So what if this decision was not necessarily all yours and someone could find you all the best candidates as well as insure the candidates loyalty and suitability for the first three months. Well some special recruitment agencies can offer this and when its introductory it can be free.

Here are some tips to help a company when thinking about hiring new staff and how might the best way to proceed be.

Tip 1: Have Clear requirements
What exactly do you need? Although this seems very obvious writing down specific skills that you require as well as the basics will help you tick all the boxes. Reflect upon the personal attributes, knowledge and experience and skills you require in your applicants skills.

Tip 2: Consider the gap within your team
This is the crucial stage to get exactly what you need, really taking the time to work out all the skills that are missing will help you recruit a truly useful new staff member rather then, one who is like everyone else you have already hired. Think about the times that you have had to use specialists or call someone in because no one has a particular skill already.

Tip 3: Use multiple activities to select the right person
Most employers' still rely on just interviews to recruit even though they are not considered the best thing to help you recruit the best person. Interviews can be prepared for and may not altogether show the applicants true working style or personality.

Including any of the following will shake things up and show the applicants under pressure:
* Psychometric testing
* A presentation
* Case Studies
* Role Plays
Whatever you add to your application process ensure it is on theme with you company's work.

Tip 4: Give the applicant a real chance
So many people in the recruitment process make a decision within the first few minutes based on a small gesture or something minor that can put them off, and even then this small thing could be due to nerves. Having multiple people in the recruitment process can help overcome your own personal likes and dislikes and get to whether they could really work in your company.

Tip 5: Inductions are important too
The selection stage is very important and making the most of the situation to get you the best applicant is very important but then your company has to show a bit of faith in their process by spending the time and money investing in their new applicant with a comprehensive induction schedule. Make the new member of staff feel supported and valued from the start and they will work harder and not become disillusioned.

In short recruitment really matters and if your previous experience is not good then follow these tips to ensure you're happy with your next recruit.
