Hair Replacement System: How To Clean It

When you have a hair replacement unit such as wigs or toupees, it is important that you clean it consistently. Cleaning will prolong its life as well as keep you from feeling uncomfortable with a hair replacement that is building up adhesive residue. Here are simple steps to clean your hair replacement unit at home.

1. Remove the adhesive in the unit gently with your fingers. When the adhesive is in the lace part, do not remove it from there as you may damage the unit. Simply soak it in adhesive remover for a few hours and remove it after.

2. After removing the adhesive, place the unit to the container and pour solvents and cleaning agents. Soak it for a while until the adhesive residue floats.

3. When the time for soaking is up, take off the hair replacement unit and scrape off the remaining adhesive residue that may be left behind with a small brush. After brushing, you may need to soak again the unit for another few minutes so that the hard residue will be totally removed.

4. Repeat the process of brushing until the residue will be removed. You can use detergent soap this time as the residue is now expected to be soft enough for easy removal.

5. Finally, shampoo and condition the unit and let it dry.

With your clean hair replacement unit, you are good as using new ones. Surely, you would not want to use units that are full of adhesive residues. If you have no time to do this, some hair salons offer cleaning services for the hair replacement unit.
