| Better way to get started with freelancing. |
There has already been discussion about what is freelancing, its drawback, risk and opportunity etc. In this article, I would try to briefly convey what are the few things that you should do as soon as you start your journey as freelancers irrespective of the fact that you are part-timer or full-timer. If you are really serious about EXPANDING YOUR STARTUP into an outsourcing company then you must do these.
- Create a website.
Purchase a domain and upload your website. It doesn't need to be anything hi-fi or fancy but should represent your company and its services sufficiently to your potential customers. This will also provide them with a platform to remain updated about your services and contacting you. Remember that your website represents you, specially when client is sitting far away.
- Register your company.
Prepare to pay taxes for it. This will establish legality of your business and hence will boost confidence of your clients. This is because for serious clients it is always difficult to trust a person who has absolutely no legal representation.
- Put you portfolio on the website.
Update your portfolio as soon as you have new thing to show; specially when your work is unique and has been highly appreciated by your client. Present your past work in a professional manner. Displaying portfolio in an unprofessional manner may kill the purpose completely. Try to display varying work samples that will give you client idea about diversity of your work.
- Get accreditation from local association/ bodies.
In many countries there are governmental as well as private professional organizations/ association that work to give boost to local firms. These bodies also constantly update their members about the opportunities available in domestic and international market through their research and study. Moreover, they also provide guidance and assistance in different matters of your services. These association however may require you to prove legality of your business so it may necessitate registering your company first.
That's about it for now. I will update the list as more things come to my mind. I would also welcome your comments.
