Cape Verde is located off the coast of Senegal approximately 400 miles distance and made up of 10 small islands scattered in the North Atlantic Ocean. There is some tourism already on the islands but due to plans to promote the area internationally as a tourist destination, tourism levels are expected to increase over the next few years. As Cape Verde becomes increasingly popular it also becomes more attractive as a destination for property investment.

The summer months of July and October are a good time to take a trip to the islands as the weather is warm and the winds are milder. There is an exotic blend of Portuguese, African influences and traditions and European architecture that is attractive to visitors. The wonderful scenery is different on each island with some flat and desert-like while others are volcanic and mountainous; all of them offer magnificent coastlines.

The biggest and most popular island in Cape Verde is Santiago; it also has the main airport in the capital city of Praia. Nearly 50% of the area’s populace inhabits this island and there is a vibrant atmosphere. The island’s landscape is interesting to say the least offering mountains, deep valleys and a coast of black reefs and sandy beaches.

The islands offer the perfect opportunity for divers as there are shipwrecks on the ocean floor to explore and the winds are ideal to windsurf. The locals adore music and there are many festivals held on the islands and live music to be found in the bars and cafes.

Some of the most popular attractions to visit are the salt mines in Sal located inside an inactive volcano, the volcanic peak of Fogo with frozen lava running down its sides and the beaches of Sal and Boa Vista are stunning. There are plenty of water activities including surfing, water-skiing and scuba diving, these can easily be booked at your hotel and then relax on the beach with a bottle of the local rum.

There are regular direct flights to Cape Verde from the UK and Europe, making the islands accessible to international travellers and likely to increase its popularity as a tourist destination.
