Spreading Your Good Name

If you work in a service industry, and you get hired out by someone who just loves the job that you did, how exactly do you use that for advertising?

Now, the first thing most people will think about will be referrals. Yes, this is certainly a possibility, and I would suggest using it every time you get a chance. Ask everyone you can if they would be willing to give you a referral. But here’s the thing about it: number one a referral takes a lot more time to give, so some people might just not have the time for it, and number two, what are you going to do with all of those referrals?

What I mean is that the smaller a company is the fewer numbers of advertisements they can hand out. You have to consider the costs of this, meaning you might end up with ten referrals, but you can only afford to create advertisements using two or three of them.

This means you need to get a little more creative in the ways you promote your name and improve upon good business. While this might not work for all businesses, you might want to consider the use of label printing to help promote yourself.

How is this going to help you?

Well, take this example. Say a person repairs refrigerators and other freezer systems for a living. They mainly work with a lot of normal people taking care of the repairs in their homes.

Now, once the repairs are finished and the job has been effectively done you make sure you have a roll of your labels with you. These labels say simply that you successfully repaired this refrigerator, along with your name and number on them.

Ask the people if they would be okay with you putting your label on the side of their refrigerator. No where too out in the open, unless they don’t care if you put it on the front of the fridge. If they say no, think nothing of it, but a lot of people are going to be willing to let you do it.

Now what happens is that every time a friend of their comes over there is a chance they’ll see that sticker. If the fridge breaks down again your name and number are close at hand.

Is this a huge form of marketing? Not at all, but the great thing about it is that label printing is cheap, and you can easily carry around a roll of labels with you. All it takes is that one little sticker to give you a lot of potential business, and every time you repair another refrigerator you’ll have another shot of spreading your business’s name.

There are a lot of businesses this tactic could work with. Consider how well it might work for you.
