Should You Do It Yourself?

These days it is a lot easier to get high quality designing software than it used to be. Not only is the software more accessible but a lot of it is easier to use than it was in years past. This stuff is being designed with the idea in mind that the everyday person is going to be using them, and so it becomes quite easy to work your way around the software and get something made.

Along with this comes the question of whether or not you should start taking advantage of software like this to start designing various advertisements yourself. The bonus that comes with this is the money you can save by handling it yourself, you become skilled at design, and you can be sure that your designs are more personal for your company, because you are handling all of it.

The downside to this is that you might not end up with as high quality of stuff. Sure, it looks fine to you, but then you designed it, so you might be a little easier to please than the people you will be sending it to.

Given that I do not know everyone’s skill at graphic design I cannot say that one path is right, because maybe you will really take to graphic design and start creating wonderful advertisements for a lot less money.

What I can do is suggest that you practice on the simpler advertisements before moving on to other, larger types. Do not start out with something like a color brochure printing project and expect to get the best results. Brochure particularly require a lot more elements in order to get the design just right, and probably would not be best for those who are not as experience in design work.

Having someone you know you can trust to run your designs by is another way of figuring out what works and what still needs a little more help.

I would say though that the best way to get started would be to take a good look at each of the advertisements you plan on going for and view as many samples of them as you can. Find every successful marketing campaigning using them that you can, and then ask yourself why these were successful. Obviously the people did something right in order to get them to work, so you need to figure out what those are.

Some of this might literally boil down to not have enough time. Handling the design work for a color brochure printing marketing push is going to take a lot longer than just hiring someone out to do the design for you. Sometimes time will be worth more to you than money.

Each person and each company is going to be different. Take a moment to sit back and ask yourself what will work best for you.
