Know What You Want To Get What You Want

It might seem a very logical statement to say that one must know what one wants in order to get it. So many people complain about the state of their lives, and yet, more often than not, they cannot be clear as to what it is that they really do want.

Do this little experiment. Ask the people around you, be it co-workers, friends, or family, this question: “What do you want more than anything else to accomplish, have, or do, in your life?”

I would be willing to bet that at least half will have no idea, some will have a vague sense of what they would like but are not too clear, and a very minute few will give you a definitive answer within seconds of you asking the question.

Ask yourself that same question too. See where you stand with your answer.

You must know what you want in order to get it.

A vague idea is not knowing.

A general sense of direction is not knowing.

A feeling that maybe you’d like to try this or that is not knowing.

Why is knowing so important then?

If you don’t know where you are heading, how do you expect to ever get there?

Knowing what you want directs your thoughts, your words, and your actions -in that order. It directs what you think about and what you talk about. Knowing what you want directs the way you set your goals and what steps to take to achieve it.

Choices are made everyday in both personal and professional life. If you hold a true knowledge of your desired end result, the choices you make will be the ones that get you that one step closer. On the other hand, if that end result is fuzzy and undefined in your own mind, then choices you make will lack direction and could very well take you further from your true calling, leaving you with that nagging feeling of not having found a satisfying meaning in life.

Indeed, when you truly know what you want, you will get what you want.
