The Mark of a Good Envelope

Some marketing material simply needs to be in an envelope. You can’t always pair up direct mailing with postcards, which means that sometimes you have to get your envelope printing done. If you want to have any success with your marketing you need to know exactly what this means for your material.

The first is that people aren’t going to be eager to rip open your envelope and see exactly what you have to say. In fact, most people will simply glance at your envelope before throwing it away without a care. You have to give people a reason to open that envelope, because without one, they aren’t going to.

The second is the competition you’re up against. Postcards don’t have that same outer shell that you’re dealing with. A person can see an entire postcard and get the full message in merely a glance. You’re going to be competing for people’s attentions against something like this.

Odds are good that the first ad that grabs a person’s attention will overshadow everything else. I’ve been sorting through a lot of mail piles before where I set aside all the important stuff, and when glancing through the advertisements, picked up one interesting one, and threw away the others while reading it.

The truth is people are going to be more likely to take interest in the first one to catch their eye, meaning you have to be the first piece of marketing material to appeal to them, or else they aren’t going to bother with you.

All of this means the outside of your envelope needs to be interesting. You have to be able to stand next to those postcards without flinching and still be interesting enough to make a person want to see what you have inside.

The best way to make sure you get attention is by stating on the outside of the envelope what a person is going to find inside. Break your message down into a single sentence and have that statement on the front of your envelope.

The sooner you can get your message across to people the better the odds are of them giving you their attention. You’re giving them that reason to look inside.

Strong visuals will be the other important thing to consider. You have to get them to even look at your message in the first place. The best way to do that is with a very strong visual cue that jumps out at them from that pile of mail.

Envelope printing can be a very effective way of getting your message to people so long as you’re aware of what you’ll need to do. Sometimes you just can’t go with a postcard, and that’s when a strong envelope will be the best option still open to you.
