Never Be Without Marketing

Far too often companies seem to think that they don’t actually need marketing to make it in the business world.

The smaller a business gets the greater the odds of them not being aware of just how important marketing is. This shouldn’t be particularly surprising, either. The large companies are the ones who got large by understanding what great marketing was all about, and if the small companies want to do the same, they’ll need to start learning.

Marketing is about spreading your company name to all the people who might not have otherwise known about it.

This isn’t just about forcing people to see your business, or trying to trick them into coming in. These are just two of the things I’ve heard people say about marketing because they were trying to avoid doing any of it.

Great marketing is the kind that encourages people to give your store a try who wouldn’t otherwise even know about it. How can you shop someplace if you don’t know their name?

I’ve seen plenty of stores before that I didn’t know anything about, and because I didn’t know about them I didn’t bother to go in and see what they were about. Years later I find out that they sell things I like, and so I finally go in. Had they done better marketing they could’ve had me as a customer for far longer, and made that many more sales.

Often all it takes is some commercial printing and the right kinds of advertising to greatly boost up your visibility and generate more sales.

Allowing people to see who you are is one of the most important aspects of marketing. This isn’t about forcing people to do anything but giving them the knowledge they need to know if your business is for them.

Word of mouth is only going to accomplish so much, and even if people love your store, they might not think to tell others about it. This is your responsibility, after all.

If costs are the concern, there are many forms of marketing you can do cheaply. Flyers and posters can be cost effective and productive at getting yourself noticed. Remember too that the larger your commercial printing order is the less money it costs per advertisement.

Knowing what you’re doing will be the best way to get your marketing taken care of without taking a large bite from your pocketbook.

I suppose if you want to keep your company small and you don’t want to expand your business in the least, than perhaps no marketing really will be what you want. Few businesses feel like remaining the same year after year, and the more customers you get the more money you’ll have to make your store as good as it can be.
