First you should know that every person selling a home for a profit in the United States, is required by law to be licensed by the state, they call this a real estate license. The good news is that getting your real estate license is not as difficult as you may first think. In fact, most U.S. states have very minimal requirements for getting your license. Your first step should be to check with your state and verify that you are eligible to obtain a real estate license in that state before moving on.
Typical requirements for getting a real estate license include things like some educational qualifications which usually consist of a high school education and around 45 hours of pre-licensing training in a state approved class, minimum age requirements which in most states is 18 although some states will require you to be 21 and of course a clean criminal record. Aside from what I have already listed there are some licensing and testing fees along with application fees, all of which are minimal costs and you must successfully pass the real estate exam, which in all truth is pretty easy, most people pass the first time.
As soon as you have determined whether or not you meet the eligibility requirements for your state, you can begin enrolling for your pre-licensing training. You can usually find real estate schools online or check with your states Real Estate Commission Board for a list of state approved facilities. There are a select number of real estate schools that will allow online training for the real estate license, though not all states allow for this so be sure to find out.
I highly recommend finding a real estate course that will benefit you the most, there are numerous real estate schools out there and many of them offer different length courses and different types of training so go with one that you feel will benefit you the most. Don't just choose the shortest course, it won't do you any good. You can expect to learn a number of different things which is designed help you build a basic knowledge of the real estate industry along with various views related to real estate law, contracts, home ownership and so forth.
After you have completed your real estate pre-license training, you will be ready to take the real estate exam. Upon completion of the exam, assuming you pass the test, you are ready to get your real estate license and begin your journey as a licensed real estate agent. So when it comes right down to it, becoming a licensed real estate agent really isn't all that difficult, especially if you truly want it. I wish you the best of luck in your new career!
