Expository preaching a hallmark and drawing card of Desert Springs Community Church
There is a school of thought out there that the bible is a document to be interpreted. At Desert Springs Community Church, we believe it is the infallible word of God and should be studied as such. This approach, commonly known as expository preaching, has been the hallmark of our friendly community church. There are so many things to recommend in our ministry, from wonderful Christian music to youth ministries and many outreach programs. Still, we've been struck by the number of church members who say they've come back after their first visit precisely because of the way we study the bible.

Desert Springs Community ChurchSuch a favorable response means a great deal to us, and is a reason that spreading the gospel through expository preaching remains one of our greatest missions. If you're still a bit confused as to the meaning of expository preaching don't worry... you're not alone. In simple terms, expository preaching concentrates on a specific text and discusses the topics covered in that text. Topical preaching, in contrast to expository preaching, concentrates on a specific topic and references texts covering that topic. Through an expository study of God’s infallible Word we can discern the correct interpretation of the passage and then look at the practical applications of that truth to our lives today. It is a thrilling way to learn God’s Word.

One of the wonderful things about expository preaching is the sense of togetherness and community it can engender. Visit one of our services and you'll see a congregation where everyone brings their bibles and is anxious to learn, and not interpret, the passages set before them. Learning from one voice, the voice of god, allows for the togetherness mentioned above. It's also abundantly clear that sharing the gospel in this way has made Desert Springs Community Church a place people want to come back to again and again, furthering our sense of community.

There is no disputing the positive effect expository preaching has had on our ministry and the members that call Desert Springs Community Church home. It is a positivity built on the notion that we are greater for knowing God's word and having it as a touchstone in our lives.
